Architectural Anatomy: Deconstructing FOR
This workshop invites students to engage in a hands-on exploration of the Floating Office Rotterdam (FOR), a pioneering example of contemporary sustainable architecture. Participants will begin by splitting into three groups and carefully observing a selected section of the building, paying attention to both its structural and material components.
FOR is a uniquely positioned building, as it is the embodiment of the synergy between Powerhouse Company, RED Company, and Construction Company, a design - development - construction ecosystem that allows us to create sustainable, pioneering design.
Students will translate their observations into a deconstructed drawing, breaking down the architecture into its essential elements, such as beams, glass panels, joints, and other structural details. This exercise not only sharpens observational skills but also encourages participants to critically reflect on how discrete parts come together to form an architectural whole.
