Whether you want to get started in preparation, engineering, or execution: at Heijmans, you can go in any direction. Even if you’re not sure yet, we will work together to find the role that suits you. And this doesn't mean you're locked into one role, as Heijmans allows you to explore multiple roles and departments during your traineeship.
As a trainee, you'll work on various construction projects. One time, you might be involved in renovating a monumental building, and another time you might work on refurbishing an operating room in a hospital, expanding an airport, or building a new residential area. Very diverse! You'll be assigned a mentor to whom you can ask all your questions and from whom you can learn. On the other hand, you'll also have significant responsibilities in your role and will quickly get to know the organization. More importantly, you'll have plenty of room to discover how to carve your own path in construction.
What Does the Traineeship Look Like?
Introduction The traineeship starts with a kick-off. Here, you'll meet the other trainees. Then follows a two-day introduction to your business stream and an initial meeting with your supervisor and personal mentor. Together, you'll discuss your development wishes and training program.
Month 1 Your first assignment
Months 2-6 Learn all about yourself and working at Heijmans. You’ll follow lessons in self-management, communication, and project management.
Month 6 Your second assignment
Months 7-12 In this phase, you develop your professional skills. You may delve deeper into a specific role or try out multiple positions. You and your mentor will determine your specific training program.
Month 12 Start your third assignment
Months 13-18 This is the final phase of your traineeship. Here, you deepen your knowledge with lessons in time management, lean working, financial management, contracts, and project management.

Job Requirements
Bring on that traineeship! You love taking action and are eager to learn. You're open to feedback, dare to ask questions, and take the initiative. This way, you'll discover your talents and quickly get to know various functions within Heijmans. Additionally:
- You have completed an HBO or WO degree in Construction Engineering or Construction Management.
- You have good communication skills and seek collaboration with your colleagues.
- You want to work at least 32 hours per week.
Employment Conditions
- An educational trainee program.
- A gross starting salary of €3,000 based on a 40-hour workweek.
- Employment conditions according to the CAO Construction and Infrastructure.
- 25 vacation days and 15 ADV (reduction of working hours) days.
